Bonds Hits 756

Barry Bonds was 1 home run away from getting to 756 homers in his MLB career yesterday. In front of the San Francisco fans, he did not disappoint.

Bonds came up in the 5th with no one on. He had a full count against pitcher Mike Bacsik. Bonds drove an inside pitch way out of the park. As soon as the ball was hit, Barry raised his hands in triumph and trotted around the bases like he did the other 755 times. He was greeted by his son, and his teammates. After the homer, Bonds gave a salute to the San Fran fans. ''Thank you very much. I got to thank all of you, all the fans here in San Francisco. It's been fantastic,'' he said shortly after crossing home plate, his godfather, Willie Mays, at his side.

Hank Aaron was also there and congratulated Bonds on the record. ''It is a great accomplishment which required skill, longevity and determination,'' he said.

''Throughout the past century, the home run has held a special place in baseball and I have been privileged to hold this record for 33 of those years. I move over now and offer my best wishes to Barry and his family on this historic achievement.

But many people will not recognize this achievement, as many think the record, "will always belong to Aaron", or "the record is tainted forever". For all the people that think that, just be quiet. Bonds has never tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in his life. Just because he made a large improvement in body stature when he went from Pittsburgh to San Fran doesn't mean he took steroids. It was around that time that athletes did start training more.

This guy had Hall of Fame numbers before all of the controversy came up. Don't forget that Bonds had quite a few MVP's and 30-30 years before the steroid problems came up.

"Right now, I'm very happy that it's all over with," Bonds said long after the Nationals defeated his Giants, 8-6. "I'm really happy with my teammates. That's the most important thing. And the fans, like I said, the fans here are my family."

"No one will ever take that away. No one can ever take that away."

Bonds Hits 2 Out To Break Slump

For the 1st time in the last 3 games, Barry Bonds was in the San Francisco Giants starting lineup yesterday. He did not disappoint breaking out of the slump that got him sidelined in the 1st place.

In the 2nd inning against Cub's starter Ted Lilly, Bonds swung at the 1st pitch he saw and pounded it out of the part for his 752nd home run of his career. In his 2nd at-bat, he drove in 2 runs with a bases loaded single. And then, in his 3rd at-bat, Barry came up with 2 men on. He whacked to centre field for his 753rd home run. But Bonds' 2 homer, 6 RBI effort was not enough for the Giants to win as the Cubs took this one 9-8.

"It's (feels) real now," Bonds said, swarmed by media in a makeshift dugout press conference at Wrigley Field. "I had to get over them switching those baseballs. Any time that happens, I kind of go into a slide. It's tough because you actually really realize something's going on and you don't really want to think about it. . But when they stop it for a second and switch baseballs, it's very hard to not know something's happening right in front of you."

Bonds next 3 games will be in Milwaukee, a perfect place to hit 756. Hank Aaron's last games where at Milwaukee, and Commissioner Bud Selig is a Milwaukee native. Selig still has not said he will try to attend the game when Barry breaks the MLB all-time home run record.

Towers Takes to the Hill

A few days ago, Josh Towers received a spot in the Blue Jays pitching rotation, and now, he will pitch against the San Francisco Giants.

This is the perfect team for the Jays to be facing, as the Giants have been starving for runs lately. They have been shutout for the past 2 games, and look to get a run tonight. San Fran has also lost 3 straight and are last in their division.

But it will take more than a run for the Jays to be stopped. Their bats have been hot of late with role players such as Matt Stairs stepping it up. On Sunday Troy Glaus had three hits, including a pair of solo homers and scored three runs.

Towers, who has never faced the Giants, was 1-3 with a 4.70 ERA in four starts to begin 2007 before making six relief appearances. He is 2-3 on the season with a 5.15 ERA and earned the win in his last outing on Tuesday with a two-inning relief stint versus the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. "I liked the reliever role a lot," said Towers, who is slated to start on Monday in the opener of a three-game Inter league set with the Giants. "I fell in love with it for some reason. I think it's the preparation of being ready every day. But starting is a big job, and it's a lot of fun, too."
