Damon Allen Re-signs with Toronto

Thursday, a key player in not only the Toronto Argonauts organization, but in the entire CFL was re-signed to a new contract.

Damon Allen was signed to a new contract Wednesday. In not only the CFL, but the entire world of football Damon Allen is the all-time leading passer. He is looking forward to a 5th season with Toronto and is excited about the Grey Cup as it is in Toronto this year.

"I'm excited about returning to the Argos, especially knowing that Grey Cup 2007 is in Toronto," Allen said in a press release. "It is our strong desire to win a championship in our home city. I want to thank the great Argo fans for encouraging me this off season to return to Toronto. They were a large part of my decision to remain an Argonaut for another season."

In 4 years as an Argo, Allen has already made his way into Argo record books as he is the all-time leading passer for the franchise. The seemingly ageless Allen is the favourite to get the starting job, but the coaching staff isn't making any guarantees.
"He will come to camp and compete for the starting position," said offensive coordinator Steve Buratto. "The passion he continues to show for this game and his skills should put him in good stead to win the job and take his team to the Grey Cup" said Buratto. Coach Mike Clemons is excited to have Allen back - "I would say welcome back but the truth of the matter is, Damon never left," Clemons said. "Recently, many questioned his ability to lead the team to a Grey Cup again. History frowns on the fate of those who have gone against him. Damon has accepted the challenge to compete for the number one position so naysayers beware. I know Damon is as excited as I am about this season, the season where the Grey Cup return to the City of Toronto."

This should be a great year for Allen and the Argos should go far into the playoffs.
